This is a brief bit to explain what I am doing for my group project and what my role has entailed....
Basically I'm a technology phobe. I hate computers and anything technological in generally, I usually seem to end up breaking them. But, for the purposes of this piece of work I had to open up and try to accept the computer as my friend, or at least a vaugue acquaintance and I think all in all I have been very accomodating. I have created my own blog which at times I have actually enjoyed posting on. And I have found it interesting to look at the idea of performance through advanced technological mediums, which although confuse me a lot of the time I have to admit are sometimes very impressive. Take The Builders Assossiation for example, I'm actually thouroughly impressed by their work and am able to accept their use of multi media technologies. However, as well as being impressed by all of my research and 'surfing' of 'the web', I have also re-afirmed a lot of the reasons why I feel both angered and scared by the increased use of the internet. This in essence has promotred the intentions behind my group project. I am working with one other person who is also far from being an internet addict, which has been good for sharing similar views but not so good in the fact that doing anything on our blog or the internet seems to take us three times as long as anyone else! We have decided that we want to express our fear and protest against the invasion of the internet into the Western world. As such we have decided to look to expose all the negative and damaging results that the internet has created. We have chosen to do this in our own performance style, creating new characters for ourselves and have created a satirical blog as 'internet worshippers'. My role has been to investigate intenet material and news stories and continue to develop a kind of manifesto for our work. I have also had to work on developing a character and my own performace stlye for our main piece which will be in the form of a home made video to add to our blog.
